From assistant to project manager in 6 months..
As you may have gathered, when I started my first marketing role at Clemas I hit the ground running. I quickly settled in and adopted some big responsibilities, the biggest being the full scale company re-brand. I’m excited to be writing about this!
It was a Friday afternoon, I was having my 6 month probation review with Clemas’ CEO when he told me I had not only passed my probation – and offered me a full-time permanent position at Clemas – but that he was making me project manager of our company re-brand and gave me a team of 4 to lead. It was the moment I realised that my career ambitions are within reach, and this is my opportunity to prove it to myself (even if I did feel like a total impostor!).
Here’s an overview of my main responsibilities:
PLANNING
- Collaborated with my team to outline our objectives for re-branding
- Conducted market research to ensure the re-brand is unique in the industry
- Outlined Clemas’ new brand identity including values, tone, design etc
- Created a detailed website brief to send to website developers
- Attended video meetings with web various suppliers
- Assigned the team specific tasks to carry out re-brand work
WEBSITE TASKS
- Worked as a team to re-write copy in every area of the new website
- Worked closely with chosen web developer on the UX/UI to ensure the website is functional, educational and on brand throughout
- Checked in with web developer frequently to ensure deadlines are met
- Weekly meetings with re-brand team on progress and helping each other as a team
- Oversaw the teams tasks to ensure produced work met standards and deadlines
E-COMMERCE TASKS
- Oversaw photography of products
- Ensured the team sourced correct part numbers and codes for website product data
- Worked closely with our outsourced Google Ads manager to ensure smooth transition of Ad changes and additions
WEBSITE LAUNCH
- Put a pre and post launch multi-media marketing plan together and created branded content for this. Platforms/channels include website, virtual showroom, email marketing, Linkedin and had our customer relationship executive mention this during routine calls with existing customers.
- Tested the website as much as possible pre and post launch to ensure a smooth changeover
PHYSICAL BRANDING
- Designed new engineer van art and had this printed with Clemas’ van aesthetics provider
- Worked with sign supplier on new building signs for Clemas’ workshops
- Designed and selected garments for new uniforms (engineers, drivers & sales team)
CONCLUSION
Leading Clemas’ re-brand and a small team of individuals taught me a lot! For starters, how much work is required for complex projects and needing to plan a timeline to ensure larger projects are completed timely. Secondly, being completely responsible for the project and all team members working on it taught me that in order to successfully lead a team, it’s beneficial to speak with each individual to create a plan that feels right for them, fits with how they work and to ensure each individual knows they have access to assistance from myself and the rest of the team as and when they need it throughout the project. After all, this was a TEAM project and my first opportunity to demonstrate my leadership capabilities.
In the end, the launch was smooth, on time and the re-brand is a success!
